My father survived colon cancer in 1990(age 72) and lymphoma in 2004 (age 86). In 2007, my mother was diagnosed with lymphoma in January(age 80), my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in March (age 57), and I was diagnosed with a rare ovarian cancer in September (age 54). We were stunned with each diagnosis, but kept a positive attitude thanks to a strong faith in God. My sister nor I live near our elderly parents, so we took turns staying with them as my mother went through treatments, at least until my sister was diagnosed and began her own treatment. I was diagnosed toward the end of my sister’s treatment, so she was able to resume helping our parents. I’m happy to report that we have all survived and are back to a somewhat “normal life”. God may have allowed the cancer gene in our family, but He certainly gave us the stamina to fight and win against this beast. We have always been a close family, but we now have this remarkable bond of survival. Comments
